The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (1896–1940) who was an American author of novels and short stories, including “The Great Gatsby”. His works are the paradigmatic writings of the Jazz Age. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century and is considered a member of the “Lost Generation” of the 1920’s.
This 1922 story tells of a “baby” by the name of Benjamin Button who’s born very much alive – only trouble is, he’s born maybe 70 years old… Benjamin looks old, feels old, and thinks old. As the years go by, he finds out that his age progresses backwards.
As I see it, the plot is not about sci-fi or a fantasy of whichever kind. It is about society’s unwillingness to let a person be – and act – whatever age HE feels fits for him.
